Other Ways to Manually Integrate DuckDuckGo with Safari:
With Safari 6, the Omnibar comes standard. In that case, you can follow the directions provided by Steven Teskey here.Unfortunately, Safari doesn't make it very easy to add DuckDuckGo. You have a few options:
- Install DuckDuckGoBar by Victor Quinn (open source), which adds a small toolbar. It is also available in the Safari extensions gallery.
- Install OpenSearch for Safari, visit the DuckDuckGo homepage, and follow the prompts.
- Install Safari Omnibar. Then right-click some selected text in the location bar, and choose "Edit Omnibar Search Providers". Then create a new entry using the search URL "https://duckduckgo.com/?q={searchTerms}". Set the new entry as the default search and click "Done".
- Install Safari Keyword Search. By default, adding "d" to your search will make it use DuckDuckGo. To make searches without "d" use DuckDuckGo, right-click on any page and select “Keyword Search Settings”. Then change the search URL for the "Default" keyword to "https://duckduckgo.com/?q=@".
- If you really know what you're doing, you can hack the binary or change your hosts file!
